International Literacy Day (Sept. 8)

  • Stay tuned for a story about literacy in the O-D on Monday, Sept. 8.
  • Read the article with the students and then ask students the following questions:
    • What are some of the things you couldn’t do if you couldn’t read and write?
    • Why is being literate so important to you and your future?
    • What can you do to help improve your reading and writing skills?

Question of the Week Look for our “Question of the Week” each Tuesday in the Observer-Dispatch print or e-edition. Suggested use ideas include:

  • Print off copies for each student to read and answer.
  • Project the story onto a screen for group discussion.
  • Great project for substitute teachers to do with the class.
